KAPLAN VIRTUAL EDUCATION PRIVACY POLICY
This is the privacy policy (“Privacy Policy”) for the website for Kaplan Virtual Education (at www.kaplanvirtualeducation.com) (the “Site”). KVE is a division of the Kaplan Higher Education Corporation, a subsidiary of Kaplan, Inc. (Kaplan, Inc., and its subsidiaries and affiliates are referred to herein as “Kaplan.”) This Privacy Policy describes how Kaplan treats personal information received about you when you visit and use our Site.
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully because by visiting and using the Site you agree to its terms. This Privacy Policy applies only to the Kaplan Virtual Education website, and not to other Kaplan websites.
We may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting a notice on all Privacy Policy links. If you see a notice of change, please check the Privacy Policy because your continued use of the Site after we post the change means you have agreed to the new terms.
Collection and Use of Your Data
Personal Data. When you request information through our Site, complete and submit an Enrollment Form downloadable on our Site, and at other times, we ask for information which includes your name, email address, postal address, phone numbers, age, birth date, gender, race and/or ethnicity, and academic credentials. We also may ask for certain family information including our student’s parent or guardian’s name(s), sibling’s name(s), emergency contacts, and their personal contact information in support of a student’s application for enrollment. We may combine the information that we collect from you with information that you provide to Kaplan in connection with your use of Kaplan’s other products, services, and websites or information we collect from third parties.
We do not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13.
We use this personal data to process enrollments; to provide you our online courses and programs or access to password-protected sections of the Site; to contact you with responses to your requests or information about your enrollment, matriculation, or our educational programs; and to personalize our programs to you and others based on personal characteristics and preferences. We may also use your data to provide you with information about other programs we think might be of interest to you.
Anonymous Data. We automatically collect IP addresses and website usage information from you when you visit the Site. This information helps us evaluate how our visitors use and navigate the Site, including the number and frequency of visitors to each Web page, and the length of their visits.
Interactive Tools. Certain features of the Site, especially when you or your child are enrolled in our courses or programs, give you an opportunity to interact with other students, faculty, and staff. These may include discussion boards and seminars. When you use these features you should be aware that your online screen name and any information you submit there, including your name, location, and email address, may be publicly available to others using the Site. We are not responsible for any information you choose to submit through these interactive features.
Sharing Your Data
Parents and Guardians. Once a student is enrolled in a Kaplan Virtual Education school, his or her parents or legal guardians will be provided with access to a section of the Site that allows them to review their child’s progress and grades and interact with the school’s administration, faculty and staff. If you are a student in a Kaplan Virtual Education program, all of the personal information you have provided to us will be accessible by your parent or guardian through this section of the Site.
Other Third Parties.
We may share your information with other Kaplan divisions and companies whose products or services we think may be of interest to you.
We may hire other companies to perform services including, without limitation, facilitating or hosting some aspects of the Site, sending email, delivering course material and auditing. These other companies may be supplied with or have access to your personally identifiable information solely for the purpose of providing these services to us or on our behalf.
We may disclose and use personally identifiable information in special circumstances where it is necessary to enforce our Enrollment Agreement, Privacy Policy, and other rights (for example, when necessary to protect our intellectual property rights), or when we, in our sole discretion, believe it is necessary or appropriate in connection with or as the result of a change in ownership of all or a portion of the Site as the result of a merger, acquisition, or transfer to another company. We also may disclose or use your personal information when we, in good faith, believe that the law requires us to do so.
